Summer is finally upon us and, although it took it’s time getting here, it seems to be here to stay. Last month’s meeting at Mueller Hollow was cancelled on short notice due to inclement weather but that didn’t deter a good turn-out as we moved inside to the Moose. Thank you to all who attended!
Also at last month’s meeting it was voted to move forward with revised Associate Member by-law changes. It was discussed to keep it at 12 member limit, grandfather in the 2 current Associate Member families we now have, and open up future Associate member’s at $300 per year. We would wave the requirement to own a registered snowmobile and they would still be required to pay guest lodging. Other Associate Member rules would stay the same. This is being done so outdoor enthusiast and family friends of current club member’s who have no interest in snowmobiling can have an opportunity to enjoy the Highland Haven. Of course, it will also help balance our budget. The board will come up with appropriate by-law change proposal’s and application changes and also the points system, the board will vote on it, and you will have an opportunity to vote on it at July’s meeting in Conneaut. If a member quorum is not available at July’s meeting, we will vote on it at Jim & Lori’s at the August 8th meeting. Please be advised that this is your notice of proposed by-law changes.
July’s meeting will be hosted by Mike & Lauraine McHugh at Conneaut Lake on SATURDAY, JULY 13th, at Walt’s Tavern, 11780 Rt. 118, Conneaut Lake, PA. 16316, about 1 mile south of Conneaut Lake Park on the left. Walt is a good guy who attends our Spring Bash every year along with 15 or so friend’s, which he brings down in the mini bus. We are planning on meeting at Walt’s at 12 noon for lunch with a short meeting to follow at 1 p.m. This will give us ample time to enjoy the afternoon on Conneaut Lake and still give time to people who would like to drive home. Lodging is available at Conneaut Lake Park Hotel, starting at $70/night, http://www.clphotelconneaut.com/, or at The Irish Cove Motel (814) 382-3045, for $60/ night, http://www.irishcovemotel.com/, . Both places are close to Walt’s and the McHugh’s. The Park Hotel is pricier but has a nice beach, boat docking is available, different room options are available, and there is always a band on Sunday afternoon in the courtyard. Check out their web-sites, and please take care of your own arrangements for the week-end if you are planning on staying. We hope to have a good turnout for what should be a good time! See you there!
The club also talked about raffling a snowmobile or quad or choice of one at June’s meeting. Bruce Moody will have more info available at July’s meeting and we will vote on whether or not to proceed. This is a big undertaking so please give it some thought and let Bruce know your feelings about feasibility, ticket prices, and how many tickets you are willing to sell.
The PSSA $9000 new sled raffle voucher was a success with all 400 tickets sold at $45 each. Bob Cotter from St. Mary’s, PA., won the voucher and is probably making plans for his new snowmobile. PSSA would like to thank all member’s of the Snowseeker’s who participated in this important fundraiser for our State Association. I’ve been told there were many of you!
It was also motioned and approved to hire Terminex from Altoona to treat the Highland Haven for the carpenter ant problem in the Social Room for the next year. They will also treat the whole club house for all rodent’s and insects. Hopefully this will take care of the ant’s and other problems we have been having up there. The initial treatment is scheduled for this coming Friday, June 28th, so member’s will be there for the Canoe trip.
The Annual Clarion River Canoe Trip is on for this coming week-end, June 29th. Please call Derek Hayes to reserve your canoe, bus ride, breakfast, and dinner. The price is $80 per canoe and includes 1 night lodging at the Haven. Additional night’s will require additional lodging fee’s. Please be sure to pay if staying extra nights and take care of your guests’. This is always an awesome time with the great scenery of the Clarion River, so come on up and enjoy!
The 8th Annual Thunder in the Forest Motorcycle Poker Run is also on for July 27th. Please see the enclosed flyer for more info, prices, etc. Michael, Ken, and committee will be meeting some time in July to discuss what’s needed. Please take your flyer with you while out between now and then and ask businesses you frequent for door prize & Chinese Auction donations. You would be surprised how they respond if you show your flyer and let them know it benefits Breast Cancer research and survivor’s. They are usually willing to help us out as this terrible disease touches or has touched many people. This is a big part of our Charity Fundraising and the biker’s present are always willing to donate generously if we have a lot of prizes there. Also, if any member’s know of a local person affected by breast cancer, please let Joni Eastly & the Charity Committee know. Chef Dean Cercone will be grillin’ and a smokin’ some good grub for some hungry biker’s. Please let Michael know if you will be attending and ask what you can do to help out! Also, Norb Belsterling is taking order’s for this year’s shirts and accessories for the event. Should be a good ride and great time, as usual!
Our condolences to Lorretta and family on the passing of her father Jack on May 28th. Ginny is recovering from heart surgery, and Guido had a scare but seems to be getting back to his old self. Please keep all in your thoughts and prayers.
The garage committee reminds member’s with sleds stored that your yearly storage fee’s are due at July’s meeting. Please pay the $50 fee per sled ASAP. Also, Art donated a nice air compressor to the club for our use, and Benny stopped by the club house and sealed our new concrete floor for us. Thanks Guy’s! Scott Thomas would like to thank all member’s who helped out in this rather large undertaking. He will now try and procure some door’s for same. Jim Wright & Dave Ford will be starting upstairs bathroom work sometime this fall. We are also in need of a self propelled push mower for the clubhouse grounds and 6 or 8 stools for our kitchen.
That’s about it for June. See you soon at Conneaut!
Mark & Sandy
